Yeah, Fonz, I am happy for Cowher and Bettis and all of those guys and all of you Steeler fans. I will always hate Bettis and Ward because they have killed my Bengals for a long time and probably will keep killing them for a long time. But those guys are obviously very good players and Bettis is a HOF'er and seems to be a genuinely good guy who simply had fun doing what he loved. They were obviously the best team though and I was someone who was rooting against them and I thought the refs had no factor in the outcome of the game. Fuck that whiny shit.
Still makes me wonder what could have been if Palmer hadn't been knocked out....oh well, there is always next year.

Does anybody have a video clip of Ben Roethlisberger's "touchdown" where he dove for the endzone and came up short. Then, as the ref watches, he reaches out and stretches the football over the endzone and the ref calls it a touchdown. They showed it in the replays. You can actually see the top of the ref's hat and Roethlisberger in the same shot as he stretches the football out. If anyone has a copy of that clip, can you post it. I want to send that clip to all my Seahawk fan friends (I'm a Steeler fan) and put a caption on it that reads, "Pittsburgh Wins". That should piss 'em off. Thanks

So whatever it is over now but we all now the Stealers suck... I even heard quite a few Stealers fans talking a little shit also.

Ok Nagger, I will agree that there were some bad calls that took some steam out of the Seahawks. But, the Seahawks did not play "awesome". They dropped at least 4 big passes to Stevens, 2 missed field goals and VERY poor clock management in the first half and the second half. They did seem to play better then the Steelers but the Steelers made the big plays (and that's about the only plays they made). They had one rush for 75 yards, 1 trick pass play and then the Roethlisberger "touchdown" which I don't think was a touchdown but Bettis surely could have pounded it in the 1-2 inches they would have needed.
To sum up, both teams played horribly (Seattle probably did play a better game than Pittsburgh). The officiating was horrible and biased, I'll agree. But, championship teams need to rise up make the big plays to overcome setbacks. I look back at the Steelers-Colts game where the officiating was very biased towards the Colts and the Steelers still destroyed them with big plays.
I just wish both teams brough their A-game so we could have been treated to a great game between the 2 best teams in the NFL. Instead, we got treated to a dud of a football game.

SOem of this was mentioned but Im gonna say it again.
We played like a team that was on the road for weeks and came from 6th seed to the fuckign superbowl. Shit.
First of all that touchdown by Ben was a touchdown. It doesn't matter what he did after he was down as far as putting the ball across the goalline. Thats not why they called it a touchdown. As long as any millimeter or part of that ball crosses the plane raising up from the edge of that goal line to the heavens before the player is down its a touchdown. It did about a foot before ben hit the ground. The call against the seahawks for that touchdown was a fair call.
If the seahawks played so awesome why didn't they score more? It was a defensive game and the better defense won. And stevens fucked up.
We won. Look at how many bad calls the Steelers had agaisnt them all the way up to this fucking game. We rose form 6th seed and beat those guys fair and square. And I bet the Seahawks had some calls go their way at some point in this series to get them there.

A Dinasty beeyotch.
When did winning 1 title in 26 years become a dynasty? Are the White Sox a dynasty too? I am only playing. The nfl is probably the toughest professional league to repeat in, and I will be honest with you, the Steelers don't pay their players, except for Hines Ward this year. Look at how many free agents they lose every year. It is hard to repeat with that kind of turnover. No Bus, no Duce, no Randle El, no Verron Haynes, no Deshea Townsend, no Chris Hope, no Ike Taylor spells difficulty repeating. At least 5 of those guys will probably be gone.
As far as the new guy who was berated, his profile says northeast Ohio. That is Browns territory. Not too many Bengals fans there.
The title, the record and the Team being under the Rooney family ownerhsip since 1933 makes them a dynasty. How many other teams have been under the same ownership since they were founded. We are the fifth oldest team in the league. And besides the Super Bowl championship team this year, our record overall is damn good. And the team has had solid dedicated players for decades. From the Steel Curtain that won the championship to this year's players. Pittsburgh fans are dedicated and Pittsburgh players are dedicated to the city and the team. Its not often you find that, seriously you can find a Steeler fan and a Steeler bar everywhere in the US. In so many cities there are Steeler bars and Steerer fans. We just rock period, how could you not like us. We're a blue collar all american team.
And like a Browns fan is any less of a rival to the Steelers than the Bengals? Shit.

When did winning 1 title in 26 years become a dynasty?I thought a dynasty was when a team manages to keep the championship for numerous years (like 10 or 20) in a row.
from- http://secure2.steelers.com/tradition/
In 1933, Art Rooney purchased an NFL franchise for $2,500. Over the next eight decades, the Pittsburgh Steelers have become a beloved part of the city, bringing so many great moments to the league and the Steel City.
Through the 1970s, the Steelers built a dynasty that brought four Super Bowl championships to Pittsburgh. Please join us in these hallowed virtual halls of Steelers history. Take a look back at the great moments, the great plays, the Super Bowls, and the players themselves.
Start from the very beginning - July 8, 1933 - when Arthur Joseph Rooney founded the club. Or follow the story decade by decade, up to the present day. [Full Story]

The Immaculate Reception
Franco Harris' catch entered immediately into football myth and gave the Steelers an unforgettable playoff victory—their first ever—over the Raiders in 1972. Was it luck or a miracle? A blown call or a spectacular play? Relive the moment and decide for yourself. Relive the moment.
Honored Steelers
Steelers players, coaches, and owners have been honored over the years by the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Don't miss Bert Bell, Terry Bradshaw, and others whose stellar careers landed them in football's shrine. Also, check out Awards and Honors for MVPs and Pro Bowl choices through the years.
I thought a dynasty was when a team manages to keep the championship for numerous years (like 10 or 20) in a row.IMO I guess it can be measured in terms of short term success with (basically) one team and lineup or coach. Or in this case, a long history of the city, players, and owners all being dedicated to the city we have loved or grown to love over the years. With all the teams in football these days, a ring is the ultimate but overall records go a long way, don't you think? Who wins 10 or 20 championships in a row? Name one team. I think we definately are a dynasty and no one will tell me otherwise.
dannydud
02-16-2006, 12:43 AM
A dynasty is when you win a series of championships over a short period of time i.e the Patriots winning 3 of 4 or the Steelers winning 4 in the 70's or the Yankees winning 4 out of 5 from 1996-2000. Yes, 10 or 20 in a row is a little out of control, but being owned by the same family for a bajillion years, or having a fan base all across the country doesn't make you a dynasty. There are Raiders fans all over the country, Al Davis has been in control of the team since 1963, and they have had success in the past too. The Cardinals have been owned by the Bidwell family since 1933 and are the oldest continuously run professional football franchise. They are not a dynasty. Neither are the current Steelers....yet. They win it all next year, and you can begin to talk dynasty. I will say this though, you are 100% correct about there being a Steelers fan and a Steeler bar just about everywhere. I have never seen a professional team's fanbase travel like they do, especially when they are good.
And like a Browns fan is any less of a rival to the Steelers than the Bengals? Shit.
What does that have to do with me pointing out that a person from northeast Ohio is probably a Browns fan and not a Bengals fan? You said Cincy or Cleveland - always a hater from Ohio. I said he is most likely a Browns fan because of where he lives. No one disputed whether Cleveland is a rival to Pittsburgh.

You're the delusional one- You said hes from North East Ohio. The browns are famous rivals to us, I don't care where in Ohio he is because with the recent sputter of an actual shot by the Bengals they thought they were bad for a hot minute there and actually started to talk shit like they were something, but alas- They got shut down.

I guess getting served in what defines a dynasty turns you into a Bengal basher/subject changer. What is funny is that I knew the shit I posted about the Cardinals and Raiders, and I have no affiliation with either of those teams. You claim to be a Steelers fan and probably had to look up all of that shit about them.
Anyhow, I didn't mean to get your panties in a bunch. Congrats on your team winning it all, but winning a title doesn't mean you are a dynasty.

I am never trying to be a dick on here or anything like that. Most of what I say is in jest. But thanks for noticing.
And I have been a Bengals fan since before most of you guys were born probably. No one can say anything to degrade them that I didn't live through the entire decade of the 90's with. I would never belittle the accomplishments of the Steelers franchise since conception, as it is almost unmatched.

I was just trying to bring the double burn back that Boy posted a while ago. I couldn't find his original post, so I had to make a new one. Pretty much everything I say is in jest too. Unless it's when I say I hate Steve. What?

I missed the original double burn post. Hey anything I can do to earn the 'double burn' title must be okay. Has anyone ever achieved the triple burn?

I was just trying to bring the double burn back that Boy posted a while ago. I couldn't find his original post, so I had to make a new one.<sigh> Let me do your leg work for you. It was in the Hot For Teacher thread where you attempted to correct my English. So Boy burned you: [LINK (http://www.mattandthat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=451&page=2)]
Also, I found my original use of the BURN! picture. It was in the Funny Screenshots thread where you made a photoshop picture of me naked so my wife called you a flaming faggot. Then I created the BURN! pic: [LINK (http://www.mattandthat.com/forum/showpost.php?p=3977&postcount=57)]Has anyone ever achieved the triple burn? Not that I've seen. Although the problem with Burn! titles is that Matt normally tries to award them to himself. So you can never really be sure if it is accurate. ;)

So he probably is the world record holder in that category then...here is a 6 burner for whenever he crowns himself King of the Burn.

In what could be a crushing blow to their hopes of repeating in Super Bowl XLI, Ben Roethlisberger was invloved in a motorcycle accident this morning. He was not wearing a helmet, and flew over the handlebars and into the windshield of another car. Here's hoping he is okay and can return to football. People on message boards eveywhere are acting like this could keep him off of the field for a while. With minicamps set to open here in about a month and preseason games less than 2 months away, this could be a crushing blow if he isn't healthy enough to play all 16 games.

Let's hope that you don't have to rely on this guy for too long.
Here are some interesting articles about Ben and his motorcycle that everyone has been trying to get him to stop riding.
Here is an article about Ben's badass bike (May 4 2005):

Un-F'ing-believable! He wasn't wearing a helmet either. (anybody from Pittsburgh know if that's a law or not there?). From what I've heard, it will only take 6-8 weeks to recover. Pretty hard to believe considering he broke his jaw, his orbital bone, lost teeth and damaged his knees etc... Here is a write up of the accident and pics of his bike and the car he hit.

Well after hearing the same damn updates and information about every 10 minutes for the 5 and a half hours I was in the car today, it appears that Ben is going to be okay and will not miss much time if any at all. It sounds like the damage to his knees was largely superficial, and was nothing serious. It appears that the recovery time is about 6-8 weeks here, which would allow him to be cleared for full contact right about the time that the preseason starts. The good thing about only breaking his jaw is that he can still participate in drills and camp as QB's don't get hit during those anyway. I think that hitting the windshield actually may have saved him some further damage. I imagine that protective glass has a little more give than asphalt pavement or a telephone/electric pole. That is good news for fans everywhere. I am sure that my Bengals won't want any excuses coming from Steeler fans when they stomp them twice this fall. The thing that would worry me is that he probably has a pretty severe concussion. I would think that you only get so many hard blows to the head before you start to get more susceptible to getting concussions. See Al Toon, Wayne Chrebet and others who had to retire because of concussion problems. Assuming that most guys only get 3 or 4 hard blows to the head before they start getting concussions real easily, he just used one of those up without even being on the field.
To answer the helmet law in PA, the original law that required helmets to be worn was amended about 3 years ago when some information came to light that helmets can, in certain instances, actually cause more severe damage to the rider. How that can be I have no idea. So the law does not require a rider to wear a helmet. I would be willing to bet that the lawmakers in PA may go back and re-amend that law after this though.

Big Ben vowed to always wear a helmet from now on, so I guess I should too...

It appears that fans are going to let him have it this season. I am going to buy a Steelers #7 jersey to wear when they come to the Nati this year. The only question is whether I put 'Toothlisberger' or 'Recklisberger' on the back instead of Roethlisberger.
PA is the most recent state to take the helmet law off the books.
Although I just heard that ben didn't have his motorcycle license and he is getting 2 citations. One for the license and conseqentially one for the helmet because he didn't have a license (I think)
I was 2 blocks away when this happened. People were walking up the street saying they knew he was gonna do it. Hes the crown prince of pittsburgh and thinks he can do whatever he wants.
And yeah Danny we aren't that loving of him. We've had so many QBs fuck things up that we're pretty pissed about it too.
Im curious to see how the new guy does, we'll see. We've got Batch, Ben isn't that hurt, and the Kordell (or Randle El) clone there so we should be alright this season.
*edit, and it doesn't matter what Big Ben vowed to do, his (and all Steelers) contracts are going to obligate them to wear helmets from now on in the off season when they are allowed to ride a bike.

It looks like he'll be fine, and maybe a little smarter. you are 100% correct about the citations from everything I have heard today. Everything should be going forward for a title defense in Pittsburgh. Let's just hope your backbone of a running game holds up now.
